On Saturday October 9th, Ten Teen Battle Chef program veterans – all students in HealthCorps schools across NYC, revealed their inner chef to a beaming crowd of family, fans and shoppers at the Whole Foods Market upper west side. Kicking off the festivities was heart surgeon and host of the Dr. Oz Show, Dr. Mehmet Oz, who founded HealthCorps.
Judges included such culinary notables as cookbook author Rozanne Gold, chef and documentarian Craig King as well as representatives from Edible Manhattan magazine and music video director Jimmy Ienner Jr.
The second event in the series surprised casual diners in the Whole Foods Market cafe in Tribeca on Wednesday Oct 13th. This showdown involved HealthCorps students who are newer to our Teen Battle Chef program from the HealthCorps program at Humanities Preparatory Academy. The students impressed such chefs in attending who were judges, hailing from such Manhattan establishments as The Pump, Jimmy’s 43, and Northern Spy Food Company restaurants.
