FAMILYCOOK Elementary Workshop

Modern families navigating grocery stores packed with processed food and more fast and unhealthy food prepared food options than healthy ones can feel very unsupported to promote good nutrition. Our 2-hour introductory workshop offers parents in your school or organization a chance to learn the basics of family cooking – where everyone helps plan, prepare and enjoy delicious, one-pot recipes. This teamwork approach is at the very heart of all FamilyCook programs and their proven, effectiveness. Here are the topics and activities we cover:
- Nutrition 101
- Basic knife skills
- Group recipe practice of safe cooking with kids of all ages
- Snacks in a Snap

Simple Secrets of Family Cooking – everything parents need to know about family nutrition, healthy meal planning, cooking with children, plus recipes!
Fruit & Veggie Magnet Tracker – this interactive refrigerator magnet tracker is a game that everyone in the family will want to play. Just mark your initials in the square for every color fruit/veggies you eat each day and try to get ‘all your colors’. At day’s end, compare your progress and wipe off and start again the next day!
Cost: $250 plus recipe ingredients, transportation (if we are bringing equipment); and Simple Secrets; magnets, etc. for participants.

FAMILYCOOK Teen Iron Chef Workshop
Want to inspire children and youth in your community that healthy eating is not only possible, but exciting, fun and part of a youth movement? Together with partners like HealthCorps (in 50 schools in 9 states) and Urban Assembly in 6 NYC schools, FamilyCook’s Teen Iron Chef Brigade are teens who have completed the Teen Iron Chef Program and are skilled and motivated to bring what they have learned about healthful cooking and eating to your next event or class! Teen Iron Chefs from our programs have made appearances at special events and classrooms across our 5 boroughs. Here are some of the events where they have been featured:
